National AssemblyParliament’s Joint Committee on National Security reviews Trump’s Tweet

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The meeting of the Joint Committee of the Parliament on National Security is underway in Islamabad on Thursday to review the US President Donald Trump’s recent statement and Pakistan’s response over it.

Sources said that the Parliamentary Leaders of all the Political Parties are also participating in the session Chaired by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq whereas the Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif will give briefing on Pakistan’s future security and diplomatic strategy.

The participants will be taken into confidence on the decisions taken in meetings of National Security Committee and Federal Cabinet held on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Sources said that the recommendations of the Parliament’s Joint Committee on National Security will be then presented to the federal government.

Trump’s anti-Pakistan tweet posted on January 1 generated a massive response from across the Country, expressing deep disappointment over the US president’s remarks and terming these detrimental to the bilateral relations between Washington and Islamabad.

However the United States, as intentions of Trump administration were clearly revealed in its new South Asia Strategic Policy announced last year, continues to take anti-Pakistan initiatives as it has suspended $255 million of military aid to Pakistan.

“The United States does not plan to spend the $255 million in … foreign military financing (FMF) for Pakistan at this time,” the White House Spokesman Raj Shah said in Washington after the controversial Trump’s Tweet surfaced.

The US is accusing Pakistan of not abiding by its commitment and despite receiving millions of dollars as aid, yet the latter continues to harbor terrorists on its soil. The US says that not only it can stop financially assisting Pakistan but may also resort to take further steps against Islamabad.

But Pakistan is of the view that it has rendered matchless sacrifices and also suffered huge economic losses      in the war on terror, and its commit to eradicate the menace of terrorist is unquestionable.
