ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State Engineer Muhammad Baligh-Ur-Rehman Friday informed the National Assembly that Pakistan’s six universities are ranked in top 700 universities of the world.

Responding to the questions of Parliamentarians in National Assembly during hour, he said “As per Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world ranking 2015-16, six Pakistani universities are ranked in top 701.”

The universities, he said, included National University of Science and Technology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Lahore University of Management Sciences, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, University of Karachi and University of Lahore.

Moreover, he said, as per QS Asia ranking 2015-16 10 Pakistani universities are ranked in top 100-350.

The universities included, Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore, National University of Science and Technology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Agha Khan University, Karachi, University of Karachi, University of Punjab, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore and University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

To another question, he said the government under vision 2025 has planned 3 years Program with Higher Education Commission to establish a public sector university/ campus/ sub-campus in each district across the country.

The minister said that Rs 6 million has been allocated for trainings of teachers in Islamabad.

He said 2264 teachers had been trained from Educational Institutions under Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad with the cooperation with National Training Institutes and partners.

Responding to another question he said Laptops will be distributed among the students of FATA soon.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
