As per the data furnished by the Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan and shared with the National Assembly on March 30, 2023 by the Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, there were a total of 380,436 Cases pending in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and High Courts as of December 31, 2022.

The number of Cases pending before the Supreme Court on December 31 last year stood at 51,744 whereas at the end of 2018, the total Pending Cases in the Apex Court were 40,987.

Azam Nazeer Tarar also told the House that the Model Courts were established across the Country with time bound criminal trial regime through trial management and scheduling mechanism.

The core objective of the initiative was provision of expeditious and inexpensive justice to the public.

The law minister told that the question as to whether the initiative was successful in providing expeditious justice to the public necessitates impact study which is not yet conducted.
