NationalNAB launches special drive for arrest of absconders, Proclaimed Offenders

KARACHI, Pakistan: National Accountability Bureau (NAB-Karachi) has initiated a campaign for arrest of Proclaimed Offenders (POs), absconders and constituted special teams to ensure arrest of maximum number of accused in corruption cases.

The NAB has also issued the updated list of 105 POs and Absconders containing their names, Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), pictures and known residential addresses, who have failed to join the proceedings being carried out at various Accountability Courts at Karachi and Hyderabad.

In this regard NAB Karachi has written letters to the concerned authorities seeking their assistance under Section 27 of National Accountability Ordinance 1999 for the arrest of such accused persons and their production before the respective Accountability Courts.

As per records, several corruption references filed in the Accountability Courts suffered inordinate delay in conclusion of trials due to non-production of accused. However, the official figures reflect that over the period of last three years NAB Karachi has been successful in arresting 148 POs and Absconders.

Instructions have been issued to the special teams as well as investigating officers to gear up their efforts to arrest maximum number of such accused, it added.
