LAHORE: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmaker in the National Assembly Tahira Asif was seriously injured in an assassination attempt in Lahore on Wednesday.

The sources said that the incident occurred when the lawmaker left her residence in the Iqbal Town area of Lahore in a car with her son to come to Islamabad but unknown gunmen came on a motorcycle and opened fire on her.

Subsequently, she received two bullets in her waist in the attack.

The MQM lawmaker was shifted to the Shaikh Zayed Hospital for medical treatment.

On the other hand, some sources claimed that the MNA was injured while resisting a robbery attempt.

The Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Inspector General of Punjab police.
