MQM challenges NADRA’s vote verification report in SHC

Election ResultsMQM challenges NADRA's vote verification report in SHC

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday moved to the Sindh High Court (SHC), challenging a NADRA report pertaining to verification of voters’ thumb impressions in Karachi’s NA-256 constituency during the May 11 polls.

The MQM MNA Iqbal Muhammad Ali and MPA Waqar Hussain Shah submitted the petitions in the SHC today, challenging the verification of voters’ thumb impressions. The application requested that the report submitted by NADRA pertaining to rigging should be dismissed.

The application presented the MQM’s stance that NADRA had no effective mechanism in place to verify thumb impressions of voters, hence they could not attest to the report.

Moreover, the petitioners also alleged the report as false propaganda against the MQM.

A hearing is scheduled to take place on Friday (tomorrow) to hear the application on the said matter.

On a request of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Zubair Khan, the report pertaining to verification of voters’ thumb impressions in Karachi’s NA-256 constituency was submitted in the SHC.

The NADRA in its report revealed that the poll for a National Assembly seat (NA-256) in Karachi was massively rigged in the May 11 general elections. It said that there were 11,343 ballot papers that contained invalid national identity card numbers, which were never issued by the authority.

Moreover, MQM candidate Waqar Hussain’s victory in PS-128 has also been challenged and a report on the issue is expected to be disclosed in a few days.
