DAMASCUS: About 200 Kurdish civilians have been taken hostage by foreign-backed Takfiri militants in Syria following violent clashes in two villages in the country’s east.

“Fighters of Al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) have seized control of Tall Aren village in Aleppo province and are laying siege to another village nearby, Tall Hassel,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

There were no immediate details about the hostages but they are all said to be from the two villages.

The Kurds in the region had recently forced the militants out of the town of Ras al-Ain along the Turkish border.
