Nine UN staff members killed in Gaza

JERUSALEM: As many as nine staff members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) have been killed in the Israeli offensive against the Gaza strip, the agency said, calling it an unforgettable tragedy .

It may be mentioned that 99 UNRWA counselors working across Gaza to provide psycho social support to almost 60,000 of the displaced persons.

“Consistently from the beginning, we called on all parties of the conflict to respect the neutrality and viability of our installations, to use the proper precautions, distinctions and proportionality when dealing with military targets near the installations,” the UNRWA director Robert Turner said.

“The locations of all of these installations have been passed to the Israeli military multiple times, they know where these shelters are. How this continues to happen, I don’t understand it,” Turner said.

Meanwhile, an eight-year-old girl was killed and 30 persons sustained injuries in an Israeli air strike which hit a house in the beachfront Shati refugee camp in Gaza City on Monday.
