ISLAMABAD: The conference of Inter Governmental Council (IGC) of CASA-1000 has ended in Islamabad after two days deliberations and decision making about electricity project.

The international financial institutions showed their strong support and commitment to finance the project during the conference.

Under the project‚ Pakistan will receive 1000 MW electricity from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan through Afghanistan.

It was agreed that the project would be put on fast track so that people of the region can get the benefit of affordable electricity.

Addressing the meeting‚ Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali said the CASA-1000 Project is an important step in building a functioning‚ efficient electricity system across Central Asia and South Asia.

He said by building new transmission facilities‚ the CASA-1000 project would give a much needed boost to Pakistan’s electricity situation.

Abid Sher Ali said the government is taking diverse measures to solve the problem of energy shortage.

The IGC constituted a number of Committees to speed up the process relating to the project.
