Protest rallies, marches, sit-ins and demonstrations are being staged across the Country on Tuesday against unannounced media censorship, closure of advertisements, and dismissal of media workers.
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) gave the call for countrywide protests to be held from 12:00 pm to 03:00 pm.
In this regard, a meeting of the Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) was held at Peshawar Press Club in which the KUJ President Saiful Islam Saifi and the Secretary Faizan Hussain among other leaders participated.
It was decided that a strong protest would be held in front of the Press Club on October 9. Members of civil society, lawyers and political organizations would take part in the rally.
Likewise, the Abbottabad Union of Journalists also decided to organize a historic sit-in in front of the Press Club along with all political parties, civil society, lawyers and the people from all walks of life.
Protests being held throughout the Country against unannounced media censorship
The President Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) Mubarak Zeb and the Secretary Ali Raza Alvi also contacted various newspapers, TV Channels, lawyers, trade unions, and local leaders of various political parties, and invited them to participate in October 9 protest.
The RIUJ leadership announced that a protest rally would be taken out from the National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad to the National Assembly, wherein it would turn into a sit-in.
The Unions of Journalists in other parts of the Country would also organize rallies in their respective Cities on Tuesday to register their protest against media censorship.
Meanwhile in a statement, the President PFUJ Afzal Butt and the Secretary General Ayub Jan Sarhandi expressed satisfaction over the performance of Journalists’ Unions. They also reiterated the resolve to continue their endeavors for the freedom of media and continuity of democracy in the Country.
