ISLAMABAD: The Government has assured the Supreme Court that local bodies elections in all cantonment areas will be held on 15th of September this year.

This assurance was given by the Secretary Defence Asif Yaseen during the hearing of a case regarding delay in the local bodies elections in cantonment areas. Three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry which heard the case today asked the Secretary Defence to give written guarantee in this regard.

The court during the hearing observed that holding of local bodies elections in cantonment areas constitutional obligation and federal and provincial should not deviate from their responsibilities.
