PESHAWAR: The death toll in the shooting incident that took place in the city area of Matani late night mounted to nine on Saturday.

According to sources, some miscreants opened gunfire at vehicles on Kohat Road in Matani area of Izzatabad late Friday moments before midnight, killing nine people on the spot.

At least six bodies were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital. Personnel from police, Frontier Corps and local Peace Committee cordoned off the flashpoint, where indiscriminate firing caused traffic backup.

According to eyewitnesses, several vehicles including passenger bus came under gun attack. An injured eyewitness said that an explosion took place before the firing.
