PoliticsDeadlock over caretaker PM ends: Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Monday said the prevailing deadlock over the caretaker prime minister had ended, and hoped that he and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi would reach a consensus in that regard.

Talking to media after another meeting with the prime minister in Islamabad to discuss the issue of the caretaker prime minister, Khursheed Shah said they would prove that the Parliament was Supreme, and all decisions must be made in the legislature.

Khursheed Shah said he along with the prime minister would hold a Press Conference at 12 pm today, and prior to that, they would hold another session of discussion over the matter.

Prior to that, the two leaders held a series of talks over the issue but they failed to remove differences.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has proposed Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk, Tassaduq Jilani and Ishrat Hussain while Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has proposed Zaka Ashraf and Jalil Abbas Jilani for the for caretaker prime minister.

In a statement prior to beginning of his meeting with the prime minister in Islamabad today, Khursheed Shah said they would try to resolve the issue today.

Khursheed Shah said if no agreement was reached between him and the prime minister, the Parliamentary Committee would take up the matter.

Meanwhile talking to media representatives outside the Accountability Court, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said they had presented good names for the caretaker prime minister.

Nawaz Sharif said they could not propose such names which were not acceptable to the public. He said a name for the caretaker prime minister must have the endorsement from the people.
