Pakistan, India can’t live in perpetual tension: Indian president

NEW DELHI, India: The Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has said that both Indian and Pakistan being neighboring countries cannot live in perpetual tension.

“I cannot live in perpetual tension with my neighbour. I would like to ease the tensions. But at the same time, it is to be recognised that there have been a series of developments since independence and partition of these countries,” Mukherjee said in an interview to the Norwegian media.

Mukherjee said that Shimla Agreement of 1972 and Lahore Declaration of 1999 can provide mechanism for resolution of outstanding issues between the two countries.
