Pakistan expresses concern over ceasefire violations by Indian forces

NEW YORK: Pakistan at the United Nations has expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of violations of the cease fire at the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary by the Indian security forces.

Participating in a debate in UN General Assembly, the ambassador Masood Khan called upon the Indian government to immediately observe cease fire and help preserve tranquility.

The Pakistani envoy said that the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan must be enabled to play its role in monitoring the ceasefire.

Masood Khan said that Pakistan is pursuing a policy of constructive engagement in the neighborhood to resolve differences.

The ambassador said that longstanding, festering issues cannot be swept under the carpet and the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir has to be resolved through negotiations, in accordance with the wishes of its people.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon has also urged India and Pakistan to resolve their outstanding issues through negotiations.

The move came as tensions along the LoC and Working Boundary escalated between the two countries over the last two days.

The UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said when asked to comment on the incidents that the Secretary-General has always called for India and Pakistan to resolve their issues “diplomatically and through discussions.
