Having a driving license is mandatory to drive a vehicle in Pakistan. Since Punjab is the second largest province in the country, with many urban routes connecting its cities, the government has given strict instructions to traffic police and highway authorities against those who drive without a valid driver’s license. Launching the Driving License Information Management System (DLIMS) helped many locals apply for and track driving licenses online. If you want to know how to get driving license in Punjab via DLIMS, we have covered everything you need below.
How to Get a Driving License in Punjab?
You can apply for Private, LTV, and PSV licenses in Punjab via DLIMS. The first step is to get a learning permit. Here is what you need to do to get a learner’s permit.
- Original CNIC
- Copy of CNIC
After providing the above documents, you can get a learning permit valid for 6 months. The purpose of a learning permit is to allow a driver to learn driving and the fundamentals of traffic. The learner must gather all the knowledge and expertise during the six months to appear for a driving test. In case you need more time, you can apply for a renewal of the learner’s permit after the expiration period. Moreover, the driver must write “L” behind the vehicle, which is clearly visible to others on the road. In addition to that, a licensed driver must sit in the passenger seat to assist the learner while on the road.
How to Get a Private Driving License Using DLIMS Punjab
To get a Private Driving License, you must pass the driving test for a bike and car. An authorized staff member judges the driver for their understanding of traffic laws and operating the vehicle. Failing to clear the test may lead you to apply for the test again after a specific period.
Here are the documents you need for a Private license in Punjab.
- A learner’s permit
- 1 photocopy of CNIC
- 2 passport-size photographs
- PKR 100 bank receipt of any HBL branch
License Types in Pakistan
We can divide the driving license types in Pakistan into three categories, as mentioned below. Going through the details can help you know which type suits your vehicle use.
LTV Driving License
The LTV Driving License is the country’s most common driving license category. A Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) allows drivers to legally drive all four-wheel vehicles, including a car, a jeep, and a van. You can apply for an LTV license by following the instructions above.
HTV Driving License
The HTV, or Heavy Transport Vehicle Driving License, is a commercial license that allows drivers to drive heavy vehicles, including trucks, buses, cranes, and other commercial vehicles. To get an HTV Driving License, a driver must have a one-year-old LTV license. Moreover, the driving tests for HTV licenses can differ from those of light vehicles.
PSV Driving License
The Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Driving License is a special driving license for those who drive commercial vehicles with passengers on board. Drivers with valid PSV licenses can operate wagons, buses, coasters, and other public-service vehicles. The PSV license further classifies into two categories:
This PSV license is valid for those who drive light passenger vehicles, including wagons and small-cabin cars.
This PSV license is valid for those who drive heavy passenger vehicles, including buses, trucks, trailers, and other heavy-duty vehicles.
