ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A high level meeting was held in Islamabad on Wednesday to review the progress of Zarb-e-Azb, a military operation launched in the restive North Waziristan tribal region on June 15 last year against various banned terror outfits.

The meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while other participants included Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif and other senior civil and military officials.

During the meeting, measures to ensure effective implementation of national action plan (NAP) on terrorism also came under discussion.

It also discussed matters pertaining to return of internally displaced families to their homes in tribal areas.

The high level meeting followed a one-on-one meeting between the prime minister and the army chief held in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The two leaders discussed matters relating to internal and external security of the country during their meeting.
