Presently, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad is paying stipend to Postgraduate Trainees’ Doctors Rs 104,390 per month.
The stipend paid to postgraduate trainees at PIMS is only slightly lesser than that paid in Punjab (where there is incremental raise in stipend starting from Rs 109,948 in first year to Rs 117,951 in the fifth year.
The above stipend to postgraduate trainees of PIMS is being provided on recommendation of the Finance Division and with the approval of the prime minister.
According to the Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, there is no proposal under consideration at present to increase the aforesaid stipend.
Posts lying vacant in PIMS
A large number of posts are lying vacant in PIMS since long as recruitment process against these posts has not been finalized due to change in the status of this institute and on the other hand the employees of PIMS are continuously retiring from service, resultantly this institute is facing acute shortage of human resource which ultimately affects in provision of quality health services to general public at large.
LDCs and UDCs of PIMS
At present, 51 Lower Division Clerks (LDCs) and 30 UDCs are performing their duties in PIMS who have 20 years or 30 years service at their credit.
There are 124 sanctioned posts of LDC (BS-11), 39 post of UDC (BS-13) & 21 posts of Assistant (BS-15) in PIMS.
The PIMS observed following quota as per federal government rules/policy:

Till to date, 61 LDCs (BS-11) have been promoted to the post of UDCs (BS-13) and 44 UDCs (BS-13) have been promoted to the post of Assistant (BS-15) in accordance with above mentioned rules.
Whereas at present, no vacant post of LDC (BS-11), UDC (BS-13) & Assistant (BS-15) falls under promotion quota whereas remaining vacant posts of the above cadres falls in the direct quota.
