ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared 27 bottled-water brands unsafe due to chemical or microbiological contamination.

Among these‚ 12 have comparatively high level of Arsenic ranging from 12-44 ppb than the standard amount.

The excessive level of arsenic causes various types of skin diseases‚ diabetes‚ hypertension‚ heart‚ kidney‚ black foot diseases‚ birth defects and multiple types of cancer.

The remaining brands were found unsafe due to the presence of higher levels of sodium‚ potassium or fluoride.
