KARACHI, Pakistan: Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that the Sindh government was spending a huge amount on health sector in Karachi as 35 development schemes are going on in mega city at the estimated cost of Rs 18164 million.

He said this while presiding over a meeting at his office here on Thursday.

Construction work is underway on 400-bed hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Cardiac Emergency Centre at Baldia, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto 200 bedded hospital at Mominabad, 50 bedded Hospital Ancholi Gulberg, 50 bedded hospital/maternity home at Gulistan-e-Johar, 100 bedded Hospital in Keamari, 100-bed Hospital at PIB Colony, 100 bed hospital Orangi Town and Central blood Bank, Karachi, he added.

He said that up-gradation work was in progress on Eidgah Maternity Home, Maternity Homes in PIB Colony, Soldier Bazar, Patel Para, Jehangir Road, extension of services of SIUT Karachi, strengthening of Chemico Bacteriological laboratory Karachi, expansion and improvement of Abbasi Shaheed hospital is also being executed.

He said that in collaboration with an international donor, improvement of children hospital was in progress at the cost of Rs 18 million and it will cater the needs of a vast area.

On this occasion Special Secretary Health Dr. Riaz Memon and DG Health Dr. Hasan Murad Shah was also present.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Health Minister paid a surprise visit to government Ibrahim Haidri hospital on Thursday.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the hygienic conditions and asked the administration to improve the situation.
