ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Senate was told that no MRI Scanner/Machine was currently functional or available at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and the Federal Government of Polyclinic Hospital (FGPC) in Islamabad.

Responding to a question by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, the Minister for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination told the Senate on Tuesday in writing that in PIMS, Philip Achieva 1, 5 T MRI Machine was installed in 2007 and later declared condemned on February 16, 2021.

It was told that the new MRI Machine is likely to be delivered by the firm by the end of January 2022.

The minister also apprised that no MRI facility is currently available in FGPC Islamabad as well.

However, he added, that during the current Financial Year 2021-22, the procurement of one MRI Machine is likely to be completed.

The minister told that there is only one MRI Scanner/ Machine in the National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM). He told that Siemens Impact MRI (1.0 Tesla) was installed at NIRM in 1996.
