ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed Friday informed the Senate that the government will establish a trauma center in Islamabad General Hospital, Tarlai.

He said a proposal has been approved to establish 200-bed Islamabad General Hospital with estimated cost of Rs 2718.410 million and the project would be completed in three years

Three rural health centers are functioning in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to provide health facilities to people, the minister said during question-hour in the Upper House.

Sheikh Aftab said that rural health units are in Bhara Kahu, Tarlai and Sihala.

The minister said these units are providing facilities including primary health cares, vaccination against eight EPI target diseases, mother and child health care services, outpatients department services, free provision of medicines.

Sheikh Aftab said that 14 basic health units are working in Islamabad Capital Territory equipped with all facilities and doctors round the clock.

He said no trauma center existed in the rural health center functioning under the control of health department. However, ambulances services are available in these centers.

Replying to another question regarding adulteration in ICT, the minister said Rs 399,400 fine had been imposed on the convicts, however, he added no arrest had been made in this regard.

Answering a question regarding Islamabad Police, the minister said nine complaints regarding illegal gratification against police officials were received during the last three years.

He said three cases of dacoities had been registered against five police officials of Islamabad Police during the last two years.

The minister said several measures had been taken to eliminate corruption in Islamabad Police including ensuring merit in posting of SHOs, internal accountability system and elimination of police culture from police stations and appreciation for better performance.
