Health112,000 children to be vaccinated against polio in Hangu

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The district administration of Hangu has completed arrangements for successful holding of a three-day anti-polio campaign starting from April 18 where 112,000 children under five years of age would be vaccinated.   

The arrangements were finalised during a high-level meeting presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hangu Ehsanullah Khan at his office Friday.

District Health Officer Dr Zia-ur-Rehman, Medical Superintendent of District Headquarters Hospital Dr Akbar Jan Coordinator Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI) Dr Bashir, representatives of local government, religious scholars and officials of health department attended the meeting.

The meeting thoroughly reviewed the arrangements made for the upcoming anti-polio campaign and expressed satisfaction over it.

The meeting was told that 112,000 children would be administered anti-polio vaccine during the campaign for which 354 teams of vaccinators were constituted.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said polio was a crippling disease could only be eradicated by making collective efforts. He said any leniency on part of government officials would not be tolerated.

Ehsanullah Khan said it was the prime responsibility of parents and guardians to administer polio drops to their kids besides bringing children to the nearest hospitals and basic health units in case of non-arrival of vaccinators at their homes due to some reasons.

He urged religious scholars, LG representatives, media persons and academicians to come forward for creating awareness against this fatal disease in order to save our children from permanent disability.
