ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the deaths caused by the explosion in Swat.

In a statement on Tuesday, the president prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the blast.

Last night, 16 people were martyred and 50 others injured in a bomb blast at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station in Kabal area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district.

The nature of the blast was yet to be ascertained.

Among the fatalities, eight were police officers identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdullah Khan, SI Ashraf Ali, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) CTD Sher Alam, and Constables Taj Muhammad, Asmat Ali, Khalilur Rahman, Bakht Rokhan, and Fazal Raziq.

Following the blast, the provincial government an imposed emergency in all the major hospitals of Swat.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah also strongly condemned the blast at the CTD Police Station in Swat.

The prime minister also directed to provide the injured with all possible medical assistance, and sought a report of the incident from the relevant authorities.
