ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Lieutenant General Asim Munir has been appointed as the 11th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) after President Dr. Arif Alvi signed the Summary of his appointment sent earlier by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif decided to appoint Lt General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Lt General Asim Munir as the COAS and forwarded a Summary to the President Arif Alvi in that regard.

Lt General Asim Munir will replace General Qamar Javed Bajwa who will retire on November 29.

Along with him, Lt General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has been appointed as the 18th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

Lt General Sahir Shamshad Mirza will replace Lt General Nadeem Raza retiring on November 27, 2022.

Prior to signing the Summary, President Arif Alvi held a meeting with the former Prime Minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan at Zaman Park in Lahore to take stock of its legal aspects.
