ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sadness over the passing away of US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

The 74-year-old Sheila Jackson Lee, a Houston Democrat who was one of the longest serving members of Texas’ Congressional delegation and a longtime advocate for progressive causes, died on Friday amid her battle with pancreatic cancer.

In his post on X on Saturday, Shahbaz Sharif wrote that “Deeply saddened to learn about the sad demise of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.”

The prime minister said that as Co-chair of the Pakistan Caucus in the US House of Representatives, Sheila Jackson Lee was a champion for stronger ties between Pakistan and the United States.

“Her contributions will be remembered and missed for years to come. May her soul rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to her family and her supporters,” he remarked.
