ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has felicitated the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his party’s victory in the Turkish local elections.

“I am delighted to congratulate friend of Pakistan Recep Tayyip Erdogan on another important victory in the Turkish local elections. The people of Pakistan wish him many more successes,” Imran Khan said in a twitter message on Monday.

The Turkish local elections were held on March 31, 2019 (Sunday) throughout the 81 provinces of the Country.

As per the preliminary results, Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party or AKP which along with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) contested the elections in many provinces under a joint People’s Alliance won more than 51 percent of the vote in the municipal elections. However the AKP lost control of the Capital Ankara for the first time in nearly two decades.

The Opposition’s Nation Alliance consisted of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the İYİ Party.

Reportedly, the CHP has also claimed a clear-cut victory in Turkey’s largest City Istanbul.
