ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday said the US President Donald Trump’s new Afghan policy was destined to fail like the plans of his predecessor – Barack Obama.
In his remarks while presiding over the Concluding session of the three-day Envoys’ Conference held at the Foreign Office in Islamabad from September 5 to September 7, the prime minister said Pakistan would not allow anyone to fight Afghanistan’s battle on its soil.
The prime minister said the resolution of Afghanistan issue was political settlement, not a military strategy. He said military strategy would not be successful in Afghanistan.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi reiterated the government of Pakistan supported war against terrorism.
In the three-day Conference, Pakistani envoys serving in important Countries including India, China, United States, Russia, Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Qatar deliberated upon a range of regional and global dimensions of the Country’s foreign policy.
In the Concluding Session, the prime minister was presented a set of recommendations prepared by the envoys after deliberations.
Following the session, the Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif would brief the media about the Conference outcome.
It is pertinent to mention here that Envoys’ Conference was convened after the US president unveiled the new United States’ policy towards Afghanistan and South Asia last month.
