KARACHI, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday unveiled a package of Rs 162 billion for 18 development projects in Karachi.

While addressing a meeting of Karachi Transformation Committee in Karachi, the prime minister said of those, 10 projects related to transport sector, seven to water and sewerage and one to water conservation.

The prime minister said a drive would be started to emphasize the importance of saving water for use of future generations. He said Pakistan couldn’t move forward unless Karachi was developed and a solid planning was required for the city’s progress.

Imran Khan said a master plan of Karachi would be developed in order to check the rampant growth of the city in all directions. He said the deterioration in Karachi’s infrastructure during the last 10 years caused damage to the whole country.

The prime minister assured that the projects of RO plants in District Tharparkar would be implemented at a cost of Rs one billion.

Separately, Prime Minister Imran Khan also inaugurated Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim in Karachi.

In his remarks, Imran Khan said the government wanted to provide more green spaces to future generations of the country.

The prime minister said it had been decided to encourage more vertical buildings in the country to save the green areas.

Imran Khan said the target of 10 billion trees in next five years would also include planting of more trees in Karachi and other cities of Sindh. He said Pakistan fell at 8th number in top 10 countries most affected by global warming.
