Government of Pakistan4,000 posts lying vacant in Pakistan Post: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 4,000 posts were lying vacant in Pakistan Post which would soon be advertised and filed, Federal Minister for Postal Services Maulana Ameer Zaman said on Friday.

While addressing a press conference at Postal Staff College in Islamabad, the minister announced to issue special commemorative postage stamps on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in October 2017.

The minister said unfortunately Pakistan Post was ignored in previous governments but now more innovative schemes would be introduced for improving the financial status of the organization.

Maulana Ameer Zaman also reiterated the resolve to steer post office reforms agenda to turn Pakistan Post into a self-sustaining public sector entity. He said Pakistan Post had started work on re-branding of its post offices under post office reforms agenda through its own financial resources to improve the efficiency of the services. He said the department had required additional funds for re-branding and improving the post office various services.

The Minister for Postal Services said Pakistan Post formulated a comprehensive plan to improve delivery of services, embrace digital financial technologies and fast financial services. He said Mobile Money Solution and Logistics Projects were being launched in Public Private Partnership mode.

The minister said the formal process of public private partnership was in its final stages and Request for Proposals (RFPs) had been drafted and approved by the respective Procurement Committees.

“Once launched, Mobile Money Solution and Pakistan Post Logistics Company will fetch revenue of around Rs 112 billion in next 10 years,” he added.

Maulana Ameer Zaman said Post Reforms agenda was not confined to mega projects; rather multiple short term partnership initiatives to capitalize on growing markets and regain market shares had been initiated.

“These short term partnership are forged with industry incumbents to gain revenue, build capacity and make Pakistan Post more competitive in the wake of changing industry scenario,” the minister added.

The minister further said Pakistan Post also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
