Islamabad, Pakistan: The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Elyor Ganiev, will be visiting Islamabad tomorrow (on 27 May 2019), reports DND News Agency from Islamabad.
He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising the Deputy Ministers for Investment & Foreign Trade and Transport and other senior officials.
hen contacted to Foreign office for details, Foreign Office confirmed that the Deputy Prime Minister will hold consultations with the Foreign Minister and also meet with several Federal Ministers/Advisers — including Railways; Planning, Development & Reforms; National Food Security & Research; Health; Commerce; and BOI.
The visit of the Deputy Prime Minister will impart further impetus to the multi-dimensional cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan in diverse fields. It will reinforce Pakistan’s bilateral ties with Uzbekistan, contribute to building a closer economic partnership, and enhance possibilities for regional connectivity.
The visit will also help deepen Pakistan’s engagement with Central Asia.

Elyor Ganiev, 58 is graduated from the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute (1981). For many years he worked in the senior positions of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade (MFERIT). In 1997–2002, he was Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, in 1994–1997 was the Deputy, then the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations. In 2002-2005 he worked as chairman of the Agency for Foreign Economic Affairs.

In 2006–2010, he headed the MFERIT, and before that, in 2005–2006, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs. He served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan between 2010−2012. He also worked as the Head of the sector for execution of the Presidential Administration and after the deputy adviser to the President.

Diplomatic sources indicate that Uzbekistan is interested to invest in Pakistan Railways and several more projects of CPEC and important deliberation would be held in Islamabad in next two days because Elyor Ganiev is expert in several administrative fields.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
