COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with the Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo on Monday and discussed the bilateral issues including trade, investment and people to people contacts.

Qureshi handed over a letter from President Dr Arif Alvi to President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa and invited him to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa assumed the Office as 8th President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on November 18, 2019. A day after, Prime Minister Imran Khan telephoned him to felicitate on his election as the Sri Lankan president, and hoped that Sri Lankan and its people would achieve greater success and prosperity under President Gotabaya’s stewardship.

Meanwhile prior to his meeting with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Shah Mahmood Qureshi also met his Sri Lankan Counterpart Dinesh Gunawardena in Colombo and discussed Pakistan-Sri Lanka bilateral relations and matters of mutual interests.

In the meeting, the foreign minister also highlighted the dire situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir, and said that India is continuously committing human rights violations in the besieged valley for over seven decades.
