ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has voiced heartfelt condolence over the death of the former Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan.

Being the first black African, the 80-year-old Kofi Annan served as the seventh United Nations Secretary General from January 1997 to December 2006. He also served as the UN-Arab League Special Envoy for Syria in 2012.

Kofi Annan also won the Nobel Prize for his humanitarian work in 2001.

Earlier in the day, the Kofi Annan Foundation told on Twitter that Nobel Peace Laureate has passed away on Saturday after a short illness.
