Five customs officials shot dead in Kohat

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Five customs officials including an Inspector were shot dead in Kohat district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

   

The police officials said that the customs officials were on routine patrol at midnight near City Phatak area on Kohat-Hangu Road when unknown gunmen opened fire on their vehicle.

Resultantly, five customs officials including an Inspector Wahab Khan lost their lives.

The attackers managed to flee the area successfully after the incident. Later, the security forces reached the site and launched a search operation in the area to trace the attackers.

“Three gunmen fired at the customs team indiscriminately. Four officials died on the spot and another succumbed to his injuries in hospital later,” the district police chief in Kohat Sohaib Ashraf told a foreign news agency.

“It was a terrorist attack on our team. All five members of the team were killed in this attack. They hailed from local areas of Kohat and Karak districts,” another police official in the area Iqbal Muhammad said.
