Federal govt, PTI discuss TORs for judicial commission

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held the second round of talks in Islamabad on Sunday evening and discussed terms of reference (TORs) for forming a judicial commission to investigate the alleged election rigging in 2014 general elections.

The federal finance minister Ishaq Dar and the federal minister for planning and development Ashan Iqbal represented the government side while the PTI side was represented by their leaders Asad Umer and Jehangir Tareen during the talks.

Later talking to media representatives after the talks, the finance minister said that talks were held in a congenial atmosphere and the two sides showed sincerity.

Ishaq Dar said that details of the dialogue would be made public when both sides reached any conclusion.

The finance minister said that it was their national obligation to resolve the current stand-off at the earliest as the politics of sit-ins is harming the national economy.

“We will have to move forward with magnanimity to immediately end the political crisis,” Dar said.

Dar said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership has issued clear instructions to its party workers to remain peaceful in Lahore today during the PTI’s shut down call.

The minister said that the PTI leadership should also issue same instructions to its workers and avoid harsh language. He said that any untoward incident would affect the dialogue process.

The PTI Secretary General Jehangir Tareen said on the occasion that it is good omen that the two sides have resumed serious talks.

Jehangir Tareen said that the nation might hear good news when the next round of dialogue is held.
