Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan: Projects worth $35 billion to be signed in energy sector

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese investment companies will sign projects worth $35 billion with Pakistan in energy sector during the upcoming visit of President Xi Jinping, the prime minister’s advisor on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz said.

The Chinese President Xi Jinping will undertake a two-day state visit to Pakistan from Monday at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

In an interview with the Pakistan Television (PTV), the advisor said that the Chinese president’s upcoming visit will open new vistas of economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

A number of important agreements and memorandum of understandings (MoUs) relating to key development projects in the infrastructure, energy, and communication sectors will be signed between the two countries during Xi Jinping’s visit.

Talking about the Pakistan-China Economic corridor project, the advisor said that it reflects development oriented vision of the Chinese and Pakistani leadership. He said that the corridor would help change the fate of the entire region besides Pakistan.

Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan and China have further cemented their already strong and cordial relations in diverse fields and President Xi Jinping’s visit would be the climax of Pak-China friendship.

The Chinese president, besides holding talks with Pakistani political and military leadership during his visit, will also address the Joint Session of the Parliament in Islamabad on Tuesday.
