Special assistant to PM leaves for US on weeklong official visit

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi has gone to the United States for a weeklong official visit from July 21 to July 28.

Fatemi will hold meetings with the senior officials in the US State Department, the Defence Department and the White House, and exchange views on bilateral relations.

The prime minister’s special assistant is also scheduled to hold meetings with prominent Senators and Congressmen, who belong to Foreign Affairs Committees of the two Houses, with a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation in foreign policy arena.

Tariq Fatemi will also participate in a UN Security Council debate in New York, on July 28 on “United Nations Peacekeeping: Regional Partnership and its Evolution”.

In addition, he will address the scholars, researchers and policy planners at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of John Hopkins University on Pakistan’s foreign policy and relations with the United States in the context of evolving situation in the region.

Fatemi’s engagements will also include interaction with the reporters of important international and local media houses, who are keen on receiving first hand information about Pakistan’s focused military operation in North Waziristan against the terrorist network without any discrimination and distinction.
