ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir has lauded Pakistan’s phenomenal successes in fight against terrorism and efforts towards regional stability.
His remarks came when he held a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif in Rawalpindi shortly after his arrival in Pakistan on Thursday.
During the meeting, the two dignitaries held a discussion regarding issues pertaining to bilateral relations and regional security situation.
Earlier, the Saudi foreign minister arrived in Islamabad on a two-day official visit to Pakistan to discuss the situation in the Middle East following its estranged ties with Iran.
The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz received the distinguished guest at the Nur Khan Air Base.
The Saudi foreign minister would also be holding meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his advisor on foreign affairs.
Pakistan has been urging restraint to both Saudi Arabia and Iran, in the wake of escalating tension between the two countries following the execution of Saudi national Sheikh Nimr Al-Nimr and the consequent torching of the Saudi embassy by a mob in Tehran.
The sources said that during talks between the Saudi foreign minister and Pakistani leadership, the military coalition of 34-Islamic countries under Saudi Arabia’s leadership to counter terrorism will also be discussed.
Meanwhile, the prime minister presided over a high level meeting in Islamabad to discuss Pakistan’s role to ease tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran ahead of the Saudi foreign minister visit.
The Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, National Security Advisor retired Lt. General Nasser Khan Janjua and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary were also present in the meeting.
Other issues related to national and regional security were also discussed in the meeting.
