Multan/Faisalabad/Bhahawalnaghar/Chistian/Lodhran : Following the clashes that broke out in various parts of Punjab on Saturday which were triggered by yesterday’s sectarian clash at Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazar area that left at least 12 persons killed, army was called and section 144 was imposed to control the situation there. Haroonabad and Bahawalnagar are also under sectarian crises.
Police sources said that army troops were called to maintain peace in Multan after a clash broke out between two rival groups near Nala Wali Muhammad area, killing at least one person and injuring more than 10 others.
Later, the clashes spread to other parts of the city where miscreants blocked roads by setting fire to tyres and other objects.
The Faisalabad administer imposed section 144 across the city and banned pillion riding and display of arms to avoid any sectarian clash as well as to avert any untoward incident.
Similarly, violent clash also erupted between two rival groups in Chishtian as several shops were torched, and the authorities had to call army to control the situation.
After the clash, tension spread to Haroonabad and Bahawalnagar where, according to media reports, army was called in to control tense situation. Section 144 was also imposed to ban public gathering of more than four people.
