KARACHI, Pakistan: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Rabita Committee member Aamir Khan was taken into custody when a heavy contingent of Rangers conducted a search operation at Nine Zero, the MQM’s headquarters in Karachi on Wednesday morning.
The Rangers officials said that the two hours search operation was carried out on an accurate tip-off while convicted criminals and target killers were arrested during the operation.
The officials said that foreign made arms and ammunition were also recovered during the operation. They said that the investigation will be carried out as to how these weapons reached the area.
In addition, they said that the MQM leader Aamir Khan was also taken into custody for interrogation.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Rangers spokesman Col. Tahir said while taking to media persons that the arrested persons include five to six criminals involved in heinous crimes. He said that 12 to 15 suspects were also arrested during the operation, who will be released if no case is found against them.
The spokesman appealed to the transporters and business community to run their business as usual.
MQM senior office bearer killed during Karachi operation
The MQM spokesperson Wasay Jalil said that a senior party office bearer Waqas Ali Shah of the central information committee was killed by Rangers during the raid.
Jalil said that Shah was killed in straight fire by Rangers personnel around 7:45 AM Wednesday morning.
However, the Sindh Rangers spokesman said that no one was killed during the raid at Nine Zero.
Private schools, petrol pumps shut down in parts of Karachi
On the other hand, private schools and petrol pumps in various areas of Karachi were shut down as MQM activists in large numbers protested against the Rangers.
The examinations in Karachi University were also postponed. Likewise, business centres and gas stations in Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Jamshoro and Mirpur Khas were also shut down.
