PTI announces candidates for Senate elections from KPK

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announces its 10 candidates who will contest the upcoming Senate elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Imran Khan-led party, which is in power in the northwestern province with coalition partners, awarded tickets to Mohsin Aziz, Syed Shibli Faraz, Fazal Muhammad Khan and Barrister Salman Afridi on general seats while Noman Wazir and Latif Yusufzai will be the PTI’s candidates on technocrat seats.

Samina Abid and Rabia Basra were given tickets on women seats while for minority seat, tickets were given to Brig ® John Kenneth Williams and Ravi Kumar.

The candidates were shortlisted by the PTI parliamentary board which met on Thursday evening under the chairmanship of Imran Khan.

Earlier in the week, the parliamentary board had gone through the 131 applications and interviewed all the applicants.

The Senate elections will take place on March 5 during which 52 new lawmakers will be elected for the 104-member upper house.

Today last date to file nominations for Senate polls

Today is the last date to file nomination papers for Senate elections to be held on March 5.

The nomination papers are being received at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office in Islamabad and the provincial offices of the commission.

The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on the February 16 and 17.

The appeals can be filed against rejection of nominations on February 20 and 21 while appeals will be disposed of on February 23 and 24 and final list of candidates will be issued on the February 25.
