LAHORE, Pakistan: Punjab Minister for Sports and Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that the preparations are completed for holding the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) 2016 and the final schedule of the grand event will be announced shortly.

He was addressing a press conference here on Monday at the National Hockey Stadium. Idrees Haider Khawaja, Secretary Punjab Olympic Association was also present on the occasion.

Rana Mashhood said the holding of Sports Festival will help in further promoting games besides creating soft image of the country.

He said the 6th Inter-School and Inter-College Games will be held from November 9 to 13, 2015.

“The upcoming Inter-School and Inter-College Games will be very useful for the cause of sports promotion in the province,” he added.

The Minister further informed that thousands of students from around 250 schools and colleges will take part in the games.

“These games will be held regularly. As many as 27 sports disciplines of boys and 16 for girls will be contested during the 5-day sports activity,” he elaborated.

Rana Mashhood revealed that special students will participate in the Inter-School and Inter-College Games for the first time.

“Special students will feature in five games – power lifting, swimming, taekwondo, athletics and archery,” he informed.

He said Inter-School and Inter-College Games will play a key role in introducing a fresh lot of talented athletes in the country.

“Top level trainers and coaches will also be arranged to impart latest training to talented boys and girls,” he maintained.

Answering a query regarding Punjab Youth Festival he said: “It’s quite evident that Punjab Youth Festival has played an important role in introducing sports culture in Pakistan. Pakistan athletes have created several national and international records after the holding of three editions of Punjab Youth Festival,” he asserted.
