Peace in Karachi to be restored at all costs: PM Nawaz

KARACHI, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday chaired a briefing about the law and order situation in Karachi, and said that peace will be restored at all costs in the metropolis.

During the meeting, Corps Commander Karachi Lt General Naveed Mukhtar and the Director General (DG) Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar briefed the prime minister about the ongoing operation against the terrorists in Karachi.

On the occasion, the prime minister said that operation against terrorism will continue till elimination of the last terrorist.

The prime minister said that all possible support will be provided to the law enforcement agencies for operation against terrorists.

Sharif expressed satisfaction over the decrease in the crime rate after the operation.

The meeting was also attended by the Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Karachi operation against criminals only

Earlier addressing a function at the Karachi Stock Exchange, the prime minister said that the Karachi operation was launched with the consensus of all political parties and it is against not any party but the criminals.

The prime minister said that the government is also working on hydropower projects like Diamir-Bhasha, Dasu, Boonji and other dams. He said that all resources of energy including coal, wind, solar and liquefied natural gas (LNG) are being explored to generate electricity.

Nawaz Sharif said that highways and motorways are being constructed to provide better communications means.

In addition, he said that good relations are also being established with all neighboring countries including India.

The premier said that improved relations with Afghanistan have been helpful in eliminating terrorism.
