Government of PakistanPakistan’s defence is in safe, strong hands: President Mamnoon

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday assured the nation that Pakistan’s defence is in safe and strong hands of their formidable armed forces.

“Our army, navy and air force are equipped with professional proficiency that matches the modern-day combat requirements,” the president said in his message on Pakistan’s Defence Day.

The president said that September 6 is a milestone in the history of our nation when 51 years ago, the jawans and officers, sailors and pilots courageously defended the Homeland against the enemy aggression, with the whole nation at their back.

Mamnoon Hussain said that this day highlights the Pakistani people’s resolve to defend the Motherland at all costs. This resolve is the pivot that guarantees the country’s security, progress and prosperity, he said.

President Mamnoon said that I salute the heroes of our great nation who sacrificed their lives for the dignity and security of our Homeland, adding that their sacrifices heighten the spirit of love for the country.

“On this day, every year, we pay homage to the Shuhada and our Ghazis. The acknowledgement of their sacrifices demands national unity and collective thinking, which is a pre-requisite to face challenges, deter nefarious designs and thwart conspiracies against Pakistan. No doubt, this national spirit and unity humbled the enemy despite its numerical superiority,” the president said.

The president noted that we have achieved the goal of indigenous production of state-of-the-art defence technology. He said that our nuclear capability and modern weaponry are an attestation of our commitment to the defence of our country.

“I am proud of the professionalism and patriotism of the armed forces. Besides watchfully guarding the frontiers, our armed forces, together with other law enforcement agencies, are playing an unforgettable role in maintaining law and order within the country,” he said.

President Mamnoon said that the successful ant-terrorism Zarb-e-Azb operation has improved the security situation in the country for which the nation eulogizes and pays tribute to the brave and valiant armed forces.

The president reiterated that Pakistan desires peaceful and friendly relations with its neighbours and we are sincere in pursuing the policy of regional cooperation. But, he added, at the same time I must emphasize that our desire for peace must not be construed as our weakness.

“We are very much aware of our defence needs and are fully capable of giving a befitting response to any kind of aggression,” Mamnoon Hussain said.

Reiterating Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir, the president said that it is the unfinished agenda of the United Nations.

“We stand shoulder to shoulder with the Kashmiri people to extend moral and diplomatic support, for their just and inalienable right of self-determination,” he said.

The president said that the United Nations and the world community must immediately play their due role in resolving the issue of Kashmir without which the dream of peace in South Asia cannot be realized.
