Pakistan wants healthy, cordial relations with Afghanistan: FO

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office said on Thursday that Pakistan wants healthy and cordial relations with Afghanistan for peace and stability in the region, and also termed the recent visit of Afghan president as not just symbolically but in substance success.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said that recent visit of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to Pakistan was in real terms a highly successful one.

The FO spokesperson said that under signing of agreed minutes of meetings, 42 important decisions related to economy, trade, connectivity and people-to-people contacts were made between the two countries.

Tasnim Aslam said that Pakistan is carrying out several projects regarding Afghanistan’s development.

The spokesperson said that Pakistan considers Russia as an important global player which can play a crucial role in the regional stability and development.

“Our ties with Moscow are moving in upward trajectory,” she said, adding that Islamabad seeks Moscow’s cooperation for the social and economic development.

Aslam said that the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu is currently in Islamabad on an official visit.

On Kashmir issue, the spokesperson said that Jammu and Kashmir is an established conflict and the UN Security Council provides platform to discuss the conflicts.

The spokesperson said that Pakistan urged the UN Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan to play an effective role regarding ceasefire violations.

In addition, he said that Pakistan is a victim of terrorism where around 55,000 people sacrificed their lives. The spokesperson said that our armed forces have taken a robust action against terrorists without any distinction or discrimination.
