ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost Wednesday called on Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and areas of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and trade came under discussion.
The Minister said, “Pakistan and Iran are tied in decades long religious, social and cultural bonds and that Pakistan greatly values its fraternal ties with Iran and considers Iran a close friend and a good neighbour,” said a press release.
He further said that Pakistan would explore every possibility to acquire energy from Iran.
“Energy sector in Pakistan is a lucrative sector for investment and Iran should invest in Power Generation, Power infrastructure and power transmission and distribution projects”, the Minister said.
The Minister also emphasized on the importance of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and termed it the most important project in the region.
He stressed that all the regional countries should make their planning to get maximum benefit from it.
The Iranian ambassador said “after the lifting of foreign sanctions the country have a great potential for investment and priority will be given to neighbouring countries.”
“The essence of Pak-Iran friendship will be materialized in the form of some projects and Iran Pakistan Gas Pipeline is one of the best projects in providing safe and cheaper energy to Pakistan and creation of jobs in both countries”, the ambassador added.
“Both the sides agreed to hold further meetings in this regard to improve cooperation and coordination in the fields of energy and trade”, the press release said.
