DUSHANBE: Pakistan and Tajikistan would expand bilateral cooperation in diverse fields including energy, security, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

At a joint stakeout with the Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that our forward-looking vision of further elevating the Pakistan-Tajikistan strategic relationship aims at building on these natural advantages.

Sharif said that his visit is a manifestation of Pakistan’s strong desire to further deepen and broaden bilateral relations with Tajikistan.

The prime minister said that he had wide-ranging consultations with the Tajik leadership, covering a whole spectrum of bilateral, regional and international issues. He said that our bilateral trade has grown significantly in recent years.

The two countries agreed to strengthen economic cooperation by optimally utilizing the present and new institutional mechanisms and intensifying private sector interface, Sharif said.

In addition, he said that it is important for our socio-economic development to eliminate extremism and terrorism. He also said that the two countries have agreed to intensify their mutual consultations on Afghanistan.

The Pakistani premier arrived in Dushanbe on a two-day official visit to Tajikistan on Tuesday.
