ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that nobody can be and will be allowed to put the country’s peace and security at stake.

Sharif made the statement in reference to a clash which erupted between supporters of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and police over removal of barriers outside the Secretariat of Tehreek-e Minhaj-ul-Quran on Tuesday. The violent clash left at least eight persons including two women dead and over 70 others injured.

The prime minister expressed grief and sorrow over the Lahore tragedy and assured that responsibility of the incident will be fixed in the light of the report of the Judicial Tribunal and immediate legal action will be taken against the culprits.

“Tribunal under a high court judge has already been set up to determine those responsible for the incident,” Sharif said in a statement issued from Dushanbe where he is on a two-day state visit.

“Pakistan is currently faced with two challenges. On the one hand our armed forces are fighting against terrorists while on the other hand we are striving to put the economy on the right track,” the statement said.
