ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Office on Friday categorically said that any foreign pressure on Pakistan’s nuclear programme is unacceptable.

“Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state and its nuclear programme is only meant for self-defence,” the Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah said while addressing a weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Friday.

The spokesperson said that the entire world has appreciated the anti-terrorism military operation Zarb-e-Azb which is underway in the country’s volatile tribal region.

Meanwhile speaking at a seminar on ‘Defence, Deterrence and Stability in South Asia’, jointly organised by Islamabad-based think-tank Centre for International Strategic Studies (CISS) and The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) of London, the Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry said that Pakistan’s nuclear programme is not offensive but defensive in nature.

The foreign secretary said that Pakistan’s policy is being guided by the principles of restraint and responsibility.

Chaudhry urged the international community to help find an equitable solution to Kashmir and other outstanding disputes.

“Rather than making unrealistic demands on Pakistan to compromise on its core security interests, major powers must consider implications of their actions and policies,” Chaudhry said.

Furthermore, he also called on the world powers to strive for conflict resolution in South Asia for lasting peace in the region.
