Pakistan, Bahrain PMs hold delegation-level talks in Manama

MANAMA, Bahrain: Pakistan and Bahrain held delegation-level talks in Manama on Wednesday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa leading their sides respectively.

The talks were held after Nawaz Sharif reached Bahrain on a two-day official visit on the invitation of Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa and his Bahraini counterpart.

During the meeting, Sharif said that Pakistan is an attractive investment destination because of government’s liberal investment policy and high rate of return.

The prime minister said that there is immense scope to expand the existing volume of $200 million bilateral trade between Pakistan and Bahrain.

Nawaz Sharif emphasized the need of reactivating Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Business Council which was established in 2007.

Moreover, he said that Pakistan and Bahrain share common perceptions on many regional and international issues.

On this occasion, the Bahraini prime minister said that Pakistanis are employed in all walks of life in his country including highly skilled professions like security and defence services.

Shaikh Khalifa lauded the contribution of Pakistani community towards socio-economic well-being of Bahrain.

Earlier, the two premiers also held one on one meeting.

Pakistan, Bahrain sign five MoUs

Meanwhile, Pakistan and Bahrain signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for further strengthening the bilateral relations.

They included MoU between the University of Bahrain and Quaid-e-Azam University, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Bahrain and Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan on cooperation in the field of small and medium enterprises development, in the field of culture and arts, cooperation in the field of Education and Higher Education, and on twinning of Islamabad and Manama Capital of Bahrain.

In addition, Nawaz Sharif handed over the instrument of ratification of the agreement for the promotion and protection of investments to his Bahraini counterpart.
